Shading styles/Palettes

Here I want to show you, that it's not only the palette itsself, that makes everything. I often heard people complaining about others, who stole their palettes. Some people think, if they use someone else's palette, they will get the same (for example) 'shiny' result as the other artist. But you can use a palette in so many different ways. And you can get more than one result out of one palette. It just depends on, how you use the palette; how you use the highlights, midtones and shadows.

Shading_styles

The first style shows a dithereing style. Dithering looks a bit smooth and a bit like a pattern. There are more ways to dither. The shadows and highlights are more balanced.

The second style shows a more cartoony style. The highlights are a bit overbalanced here.

The third style shows again a more cartoony style. Here the shadows are overbalanced, and the hightlights only cover some areas.

You should try out different styles of shading. Not only for the overall-look of your doll, but for example for clothes. Not all clothes are shiny. Try to mix different cloths in one doll.
